The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Colorado State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Associate or Full Professor level. The role focuses on advancing research and education in high-intensity laser-matter interactions, high-power lasers, and applications in high-energy density science, including laser fusion. The successful candidate will contribute to the university’s ATLAS facility, a state-of-the-art center for laser research, while teaching and mentoring students in electrical and computer engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct innovative, externally funded research in high-power laser-matter interactions and related applications.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in electrical and computer engineering.
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students in academic and research pursuits.
  • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including the Advanced Center for Extreme Photonics and ATLAS facility researchers.
  • Publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at conferences.

Requirements

  • PhD in electrical engineering, physics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Evidence of scholarly achievement, including publications and extramural funding.
  • At least six years of experience in ultra-intense laser-matter interactions.
  • Commitment to teaching, research, and service responsibilities.
  • Ability to contribute to the ATLAS facility and collaborate across disciplines.

Desirable skills

  • Internationally recognized research contributions.
  • Proven ability to secure significant external funding.
  • Teaching and mentoring experience at the university level.

Conditions

  • Salary range: $150,000 - $200,000 annually, with comprehensive benefits.
